Today, I’m thrilled to introduce the site I’ve just launched: MojiWall.
If you’re learning Japanese (or desperately trying to memorize your JLPT Kanji), you know the hardest part is constant exposure. You can do all the flashcards you want, but if you don’t see the characters, you forget them. That’s where MojiWall comes in.

What is MojiWall?
It’s a free, smart wallpaper generator designed specifically for learning Kana and Kanji. The idea is simple but powerful: turn the screen you look at 200 times a day (your phone or computer) into a passive revision tool.
The tool lets you generate minimalist, aesthetic wallpaper packs based on traditional Japanese color palettes (soothing pastel colors). Whether you’re a beginner (Hiragana/Katakana) or suffering through the N1, MojiWall creates custom images to support you.
Key Features
- Zero technical setup: The site automatically detects your screen resolution (smartphone, tablet, or desktop). No need to crop or resize; the image comes out pixel-perfect.
- All levels covered: Hiragana, Katakana, and all JLPT levels (N5 to N1).
- “Zen” Design: Unlike cluttered wallpapers, we focus on visual isolation. One character, one soft color. It’s clean, easy on the eyes, and burns the Kanji into your retina.
- Free & Ad-free: This is a passion project built to help the community. No flashing banners—just code and Kanji.
Why does it work? (The science bit 🤓)
The concept is based on the “Mere Exposure Effect.” By seeing a character in your peripheral vision all day long, you “prime” your brain. When you encounter this Kanji again during active study (Anki, textbooks…), your brain will recognize it faster because it’s already familiar. It’s a way to fight the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve without even feeling like you’re working.
How to use it?
- Go to MojiWall.
- Select your Moji’s type (e.g., Hiragana, Kanji, JLPT N4).
- Let the tool generate your pack.
- Set up your phone, tablet, or computer to cycle through the wallpapers (slideshow mode).
Every time you unlock your screen, you review a character. Simple, right?
I hope this tool will be as useful to you as it has been to me. Don’t hesitate to email me your feedback if you have ideas for improvements!
